The leadership of the Lithuanian Armed Forces expresses its deepest condolences to the soldiers’ relatives and service friends.

“In order to determine the circumstances of the incident, a pre-trial investigation has been launched, which is being conducted by the US law enforcement and the military police of the Lithuanian army, under the direction of the Vilnius district prosecutor’s office,” the statement of the Lithuanian army reads.

The police informed the news portal tv3.lt that the accident happened on Wednesday. The police received a report that a soldier was injured at the Pabrade training ground. Doctors still fought for his life, but he died in the ambulance.

The US embassy does not comment on the incident

The US Embassy in Lithuania confirmed the information about the soldier’s death on Friday, but did not comment on the circumstances of the incident in detail.

“We express our sincere condolences to the family for the loss,” the diplomatic mission said in a statement sent to BNS.

The USA has deployed a battalion combat group in Lithuania.

Kasčiūnas: we will provide all the help

Minister of National Defense Laurynas Kasčiūnas also expressed his condolences.

“The death of every soldier, Lithuanian or allied, is a great loss for all of us. I convey my sincere condolences to the relatives and service colleagues. Our army is ready to provide the soldiers with all the necessary medical, psychological and spiritual help,” L. Kasčiūnas is quoted as saying in the condolence message issued by the ministry.
