More than a thousand soldiers of the Lithuanian Armed Forces KASP will start military exercises on Friday.
In south-eastern Lithuania, they will train all weekend, the Lithuanian army announced. Members of the Latvian National Guard, the Estonian Volunteer Force Kaitseliit, the Polish Territorial Defense Forces, the British Ranger Regiment, the US Pennsylvania National Guard and the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union will take part in the exercise “Strong Shield”.
“Volunteer soldiers always train to defend their land, their family and their neighbor, therefore the exercises are organized in the area of national responsibility – Vilnius region, where the soldiers themselves live,” said the Commander of KASP Col. Linas Kubilius.
The soldiers will train in the territories of Vilnius city, Vilnius district, Trakai, Elektrėnai, Šalčininkai, Visaginas, Ignalina, Švenčionys, Molėtai, Ukmergė and Širvintos municipalities.
The military exercises will take place in light and dark hours of the day. Soldiers will move on foot or with wheeled military vehicles, using imitation ammunition, explosive charges, special equipment, smoke packs and flares.
The exercise “Strong Shield” is designed to train the headquarters and units of the 8th National Team of the KASP Great Combat District in order to be able to carry out the defense operations assigned to the national team, provided for in the national defense plans.
The exercise assessors will monitor the skills of the headquarters, infantry companies and units to plan and conduct military operations in real time, in real time, and to coordinate and interact with other units and allies of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
The exercise consists of two stages – the training of the headquarters of the national headquarters and company management groups, which took place from Monday to Friday, and the field tactical exercises taking place in the area of national responsibility, which will last until Sunday.
The evaluation field tactical exercise “Strong Shield” is an evaluation of the end of the national combat training cycle.
Exercises in the Volunteer Force have been organized for more than five years in a specific area of responsibility, during which soldiers improve the coordination of joint actions, skills in planning and conducting military operations, and strengthen combat readiness.
About 5.2 thousand people are serving in the forces. military volunteers – conscripts who perform voluntary non-permanent military service under a military volunteer contract.
Combat training exercises for military volunteers take place about 30 days a year, usually on weekends, so volunteers combine military service with civilian activities – work or study.
