The luggage market has returned to the port city, and in the coming weekend, citizens will have the opportunity to visit the market, where they can purchase various decor items, antiques, dishes or books. This year, as many as 300 participants will participate in the trunk market, mainly selling clothes, shoes, toys, household items and garden tools.

The number of participants increases every year

The luggage market, which is taking place in Klaipėda for the third year, will receive a large number of participants this year. According to the organizers, at the beginning more than 100 participants gathered, but now they are increasing.

“In the beginning, we had about 120 participants, but now there are 300. When we start registration, we gather the full number of participants in two or three days, although we spend two weeks for registration. The waiting list is also not much smaller, where people are ready to take a place if someone cannot come,” said the organizers.

According to them, about a hundred participants with cars line up near the parking lot of Švyturis arena on Saturdays before the opening and form an impressive column.

“We want to be happy that the popularity of this luggage market is not waning, but on the contrary, it is growing.” Both the number of those willing to trade and the number of visitors is increasing. We still have room to expand, so we plan to attract participants and visitors not only from Latvia, but also from Estonia or Poland,” the organizers did not hide.

There are quite a few thrift stores, vintage dealers, and collectors at the market. Some have confirmed that they earn several thousand euros a day.

Not everyone is admitted

The organizers said that various traders of the so-called standard market often try to enter the market, but their participation is prohibited.

“This is not an ordinary market, the priority in this market is for ordinary people to sell their unnecessary things or old things worthy of attention,” emphasized one of the organizers.

There are also many parents with their children who sell their own things and toys.

It also receives guests from elsewhere

According to the organizers, about 40 percent participants are not from Klaipėda, but from other Lithuanian cities or the neighboring country – Latvia.

“There are some participants and visitors who specially come to the luggage market and, on the same occasion, stay in Klaipėda for the weekend, visit the sea and other places,” noted the organizers.
