At the Kena Railway Border Control Point (BCP), a wagon with the insignia “Z” used by the Russian military was unhooked from a freight train transporting goods to Russia’s Kaliningrad region.
An unusual event was recorded on Thursday by the VSAT Vilnius border team’s Kenas GPKP. It’s around 2 p.m. here. When a freight train arrived from Belarus, the border guards noticed that one of the wagons had the insignia “Z” used by the Russian army painted with gray spray paint. Based on the warning about possible violations of public order and provocations related to the 2022 in February, when Russia started military aggression against Ukraine, this wagon was unhooked from the train and was not allowed into Lithuania.
There is still no consensus on the purpose of using the Latin letter “Z”, which the Russian alphabet (Cyrillic) does not have, but it was first noticed on the sides of Russian tanks going to Ukraine. It is undeniable that this letter is perceived in Russia as a symbol of support for the war and the invasion of Ukraine by the president of that country.
