Where Kaunas grows the most

Already in the next few years, the old elementary school branch building should be replaced by almost three times larger spaces: the total area of the premises will increase from 1.6 thousand. up to 4.5 thousand sq. meters. Preparation of pre-project proposals is currently being completed.

In the new building, instead of the current seven, no less than 24 classes for elementary school students, offices for staff, premises for food production and feeding and storage of students are planned. In addition, a universal assembly hall and gym with sanitary units and changing rooms will be built next door. This space will undoubtedly serve the needs of the local community as well.

“Orderly schools and kindergartens are of great importance for the attractiveness of the city. Recently, Kaunas has made considerable progress here. But it does not end there – there is still room for more serious work. The city makes sure that children grow up and learn in cozy spaces, and that teachers find it comfortable and good to work there. It is important for parents that their children attend educational institutions closer to home. Therefore, we will continue to expand schools where Kaunas is growing the most.

In addition, we are talking about the President’s Valdas Adamkaus Gymnasium. This honorable name alone obliges the institution to be fully worthy of it,” says Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis.

Outside there are gazebos and a greenhouse

The area marked with the number 30 of Šeštokai street is planned to be cleaned first – garages, boiler rooms and other unnecessary structures will be demolished.

The architects aim to preserve as many greenery as possible on the plot. The building is shaped in the best lighting directions. With the addition of the newly designed extensions, the structure will have an inner courtyard for outdoor activities, gatherings, events or games. Dark and light gray and orange panels are planned for facade decoration.

After the reconstruction, the entrance to the territory will remain from the northeast side. Parking lots are also being designed there. Adjacent, there is a place for a storage room and a greenhouse, which will be used for outdoor education, this gymnasium is ecologically oriented and pays special attention to the activities and initiatives related to it.

In the western part of the territory, playgrounds, spaces for outdoor classroom activities, and a gazebo are designed. In the south, there is a gym and an outdoor basketball court.

It is especially sought after among Kaunas residents

In 2016, after the name of President Valdas Adamkaus was given to the gymnasium in Aleksote, the city started its renovation projects. The main branch in Bitininkų street has undergone significant changes – the fourth floor has been installed in the building reconstructed from the ground up – modern, multifunctional and easily transformed educational, rest and recreation spaces have been created, teaching and learning clusters have been formed.

Not only that, the building of the former Students’ Environmental Studies Center on Šeštokai Street was additionally transferred to the gymnasium. There are currently 7 primary school classes. However, every year the institution becomes more and more desirable among the little Kaunas and their parents, so its popularity today has surpassed even that.

“The microdistrict is expanding, the number of students is increasing, so it is natural that such changes are especially necessary for the gymnasium. Health and sports are an important part of our educational process. Both the renovated stadium next to the main building and the new sports complex will undoubtedly add quality. We will use the future spaces for both formal and informal education”, assures Rozvita Brazaitienė, deputy director of the President’s Valdas Adamkaus Gymnasium.

Even more construction and repairs

In the near future, more educational infrastructure development projects are planned in Kaunas.

The reconstruction plan of the Tirkiliškii school-kindergarten has reached the expertise stage. In Aleksote, on Dvarų and M. Yčos streets, preparations are being made for the construction of extensions – for 9th grade students and 8th grade kindergarteners. The main action will start in the summer, at the end of the school year.

The technical project is also being prepared for the reconstruction of Vaišvydava school in Kaunas. In the Kaunas International Gymnasium, on Vytautas avenue, the construction of additional spaces – the fourth floor – continues.

Renovation of the facade, roof and interior of the Mika Petrauskas School of Performing Arts in Kaunas on the Paroda Hill is gaining momentum. The building of a new gymnasium is already under construction in the yard of Maironis University Gymnasium.

At the beginning of the summer, the winner of the public tender for the construction of a new nursery-kindergarten in Romainiai, Vijūkų street will also be announced – it will be the largest preschool educational institution in Kaunas.

In addition, the 12-group kindergarten “Vaikystės takas” was opened in Šilainiai last year and was immediately filled, and “Pelėdžikus” with 160 places for little Kaunians opened its doors last year in Vilijampole.
