“I voted for the strongest candidate – Ingrida Šimonytė. A person who is not about himself, but about the cause of the state and the ability to stand for it. Ingrida never wasted on empty promises, did not favor anyone in times of crisis, but stepped firmly and made difficult but necessary decisions for the security of the state. This candidate is recognized not only by Lithuania, but also by Europe. She is reliable, honest and for the strengthening of Lithuania”, said G. Landsbergis.

The chairman of the TS-LKD party also voted for the legalization of dual citizenship in the referendum.

“The referendum is another opportunity to agree on the preservation of citizenship, another step towards a global Lithuania. Currently, almost 400 thousand citizens with the right to vote live abroad.

And it doesn’t really matter in which country they are currently building their lives. Citizenship is that special connection that unites us all, on all continents, citizenship is a connection that helps create an even stronger connection with Lithuania and strengthens our state. I invite Lithuanians living both in Lithuania and abroad to help round up Lithuania. I invite everyone, both in Lithuania and abroad, to come to the polling stations and express their will,” said G. Landsbergis.

ELTA reminds that early voting in the presidential elections and the referendum on the preservation of citizenship continues on Thursday. Voters will be able to vote until Thursday evening from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in all 60 municipalities, regardless of where they have declared their place of residence.

The main election day is Sunday.

8 candidates are competing for the post of the country’s leader – Gitanas Nausėda, who is seeking a second term, Prime Minister I. Šimonytė nominated by conservatives, representative of the Freedom Party, former chairman of the Constitutional Court (KT) Dainius Žalimas, independent candidates Ignas Vėgėlė and Eduardas Vaitkus, founder of the “Nemunos aušra” party Remigijus Žemaitaitis, Giedrimas Jeglinskas nominated by the Democratic Union “Vardan Lietuvos” and Andrius Mazuronis, chairman of the Labor Party.

In the referendum ballot, it will be proposed to abandon the sentence currently written in the Constitution: “except for the individual cases provided for by law, no one can be a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania and another state at the same time”. This provision does not allow the preservation of Lithuanian citizenship after acquiring the citizenship of another state.
