In Lithuania, it is forbidden to display the St. George ribbon and other symbols that are related to the propaganda spread by Russia. May 9 Victory Day is celebrated in Russia and some other former USSR countries. In order to combat Soviet symbolism, the municipality installed special containers at memorial sites.

“For all those who are nostalgic for the days near the Russians, we have built the most appropriate place in the city for symbols of honor”, – writes the mayor of Vilnius, Valdas Benkunskas, on his Facebook account.

The mayor shared a photo where we see a container placed near the cemetery with the inscription: “for carnations, candles and Soviet nostalgia”.

Fines from 300 to 700 euros are threatened for the use of propaganda symbols of Russia, and fines of up to 1.2 thousand euros can be imposed on legal entities. euros.

In Europe, the end of World War II is celebrated on May 8. However, on May 9 even before the start of the war in Ukraine, people with pro-Russian views and people who mentioned Soviet traditions were mentioned in some cities of Lithuania.
