Press representative of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department (PAGD) Edita Zdanevičienė 15 minutes said that the report about the fire in the shopping center located on Vikingai Street was received at 3:57 a.m.

“When the forces arrived, the brick warehouse was burning with an open flame, its area is about 5 thousand square meters. square meters, the premises were heavily smoked, drowning in smoke. Goods stacked in metal racks were on fire,” said the representative of the fire department.

According to her, the fire was brought under control at 5:48 a.m., but the firefighters worked in the premises of the shopping center until the morning.

“Firefighters worked at the scene practically until ten o’clock in the morning. Firefighters ventilated the premises, the company’s elevators were also used so that goods could be removed from the upper shelves”, said E. Zdanevičienė.

According to her, according to preliminary data, no one was injured in the fire. Firefighters are investigating the incident.

The shopping center is closed

“IKEA” Corporate Services Manager for the Baltic States Renata Dantė 15 minutes said that the effects of the fire in the premises of the shopping center are still being liquidated.

For this reason, IKEA is closed on Thursday.

“At the moment, the effects of fire extinguishing are being liquidated in the premises, so the IKEA store in Vilnius and the Swedish restaurant are not working today,” said R. Dantė.

According to her, the shopping center will open its doors to the public again on Friday and will be open during normal hours.
