A stylist on the image of Lithuanian politicians: thank you, I’ve had enough of these people, I don’t work with them anymore

--

As the presidential elections are approaching, stylist Milda Metlovaitė spoke about the image of the country’s politicians and revealed the reasons why she no longer wants to work with them.

Stylist M. Metlovaitė, who created the image of President Gitanas Nausėda and Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielis Landsbergiis, said that the first experience of working with the most important persons of the state deterred her desire to work with politicians for a while. According to the stylist, when working with politicians, the freedom to create an authentic image is severely limited by the rules.

“I admit I wanted to dress them up because of their name – thanks, I’ve had enough of these people, I’m not working with them anymore. Not because there is anything wrong, but creativity is not to be found here. It’s interesting to try to work with such people, but the most important thing for me is creativity and the opportunity to realize yourself, and that’s not the case in politics,” thought stylist M. Metlovaitė.

The style icon in politics is the president’s wife

The stylist admitted that it is possible to circumvent all the rules, if the politicians themselves would express their desire and give permission to reveal their authentic personality through style details. According to M. Metlovaitė, the wife of former Lithuanian president Valdas Adamkaus always maintained an aesthetic sense of style in political life.

“Forever, Alma Adamkienė was a woman from whom we should all take an example – me, and you, and everyone else who is looking for aesthetic vision, that wonderful self-presentation and self-empathy,” said M. Metlovaitė.

Although the image of the president’s wife is also limited by rules, according to M. Metlovaitė, women really leave more room for creative solutions than men. It is for this reason that only working with first ladies could tempt the stylist to return to the political arena.

“It is very important that the first lady feels like herself, because she represents both her country and her family. Of course, we would like her to be among the most stylish women in Europe at the same time”, smiled M. Metlovaitė.

The most striking detail of style lies in personality

Stylists who create an image for politicians is an unexploited, but with a lot of potential, field of work in Lithuania. In M. Metlovaitė’s opinion, the young creators of the country, who are determined to juggle creativity and the abundance of rules, could reveal their talent here.

“Each stylist has his own directions in which he feels best and dives best. My waters are probably television, theater, cinema and fashion magazines. It’s more interesting for me to create a character than to go help organize the closet and, to be honest, I don’t want to burden people with psychological problems like that,” M. Metlovaitė said.

However, the stylist is convinced that a person is most decorated with charisma – it is the most important detail of the image, which creates the impression of an exceptionally stylish image for even the most banal combinations of clothes. “A man can be sitting in black jeans and a black golf shirt, and you just can’t take your eyes off him and say: wowhow stylish he is,” said stylist M. Metlovaitė about the importance of charisma.
