In many schools, a large number of high school graduates do not take the Lithuanian language and mathematics state exams, which from this year are decisive for admission to higher education institutions, and the differences between schools reach 5-20 times, the editors of the magazine “Reitingai” emphasize. For the eleventh time, they present the institutional ranking of all high schools in the country. As every year, selective and non-selective secondary education schools are lined up. The names of the first rank at the top every year.

On this topic, radio station FM99 had an interview with Jone Kučinskaita, editor of the magazine “Reitingai.

Speaking about Alytus gymnasiums, Jonė Kučinskaitė singled out two with good results. Alytus St. Benediktas high school is in 14th position, and Alytas Adolfos Ramanauskas – Vanagos high school is in 23rd position.

“St. At Benediktas high school last year, 96 percent of the 55 graduates who graduated from the high school learned Lithuanian, and there were no students who failed. 89 percent passed the math exam, 8 percent did not pass. Meanwhile, 153 graduates graduated from A. Ramanauskas-Vanagos Gymnasium last year. 95 percent took the Lithuanian language exam, 2 percent failed. 75 percent passed mathematics, there were no failures”, said J. Kučinskaitė.

The publishers of the “Reitingai” magazine emphasize that small regional schools also achieve extremely high results, but when the order changes, some of them will shrink, because they will not be able to form classes due to the small number of students.

It is true, as the representative of the magazine Jonė Kučinskaitė points out, there are many schools that several times exceed the requirement of 21 students in the eleventh grade, but as the current situation of graduates shows, in some large high schools even less than half or only a third of the graduates take the state exams and a considerable number of them still do not pass. But in small ones, where the number of students in classes fluctuates around the 21-student limit that comes into force, according to J. Kučinskaitė, it is not uncommon for all or almost all of the graduates to take the state exams. “There are schools in Lithuania where a hundred graduates study, half take the exam, and 30 percent from those who keep, they don’t survive”, emphasized J. Kučinskaitė.

J. Kučinskaitė, the compiler of the rankings, emphasizes that 80-90 percent of students from one gymnasium (there are 360 of them in the country) enter higher education. graduates, and from others – 0-3 percent.

CEO of “Reitingai” magazine. editor Gintaras Sarafinas says that there are many burning fires in education at the moment and we will be “sneezing for a long time” due to recent transformations in this sector. He reminded that Lithuania, in addition to intermediate inspections, is also waiting for the start of inclusive education from September.

According to G. Sarafin, he is not properly prepared either, but is in a hurry. He reminded that textbooks were not prepared in a hurry and elsewhere, for example, during the implementation of updated educational programs, and they are still missing even though the reform started in September.

G. Sarafinas was pleased that there are a number of strong schools in Lithuania, but there are also weak ones and, according to him, the differences between them have been growing in recent years. According to the magazine “Reitingai”, the differences between schools in Lithuania reach 5-20 times according to exam results. G. Sarafinas emphasized that there are clear differences even in the same municipality, when, for example, the majority of students from one school in the same city enter colleges or universities, and only one from another.
