The use of renewable resources and the efficiency of energy consumption in the country’s transport are increasing slightly, or even decreasing, and the development of electricity use in this sector is taking place too slowly, according to the results of the audit conducted by the State Audit Office (VK) published on Thursday.

“In order to reduce the impact on climate change, it is necessary to ensure the development of renewable energy resources in the transport sector, but the potential of local biofuel production is still not being used, and the development of the use of electricity in the transport sector is too slow,” State Comptroller Mindaugas Macijauskas said in the report.

According to VK, it was planned that in 2020 the share of energy produced from renewable resources in the transport sector would be at least 10%, but in 2022 it reached only 6.7%.

In addition, according to the inspectors, the use of local raw materials in the production of advanced biofuels is not ensured in Lithuania.

“Although it is stipulated that the proportion of advanced biofuels added to the sold fuels must increase every year from 2022, such biofuels are not produced in Lithuania, but are imported from other countries,” the report states.

Although it is stipulated that the proportion of advanced biofuels added to the sold fuels must increase every year from 2022, such biofuels are not produced in Lithuania, but are imported from other countries.

According to VK, the number of electric vehicles and their charging accesses is constantly growing, but the indicators set for 2023 have not been reached. 25 thousand are planned in the place. There were almost 20,000 electric cars in the country last year, and almost 9,000 instead of the planned number. network of charging accesses – only 2.5 thousand.

At that time, the number of petroleum-powered vehicles doubled to 2 million between 2005 and 2023.

According to controllers, bus and rail passenger traffic is below the pre-pandemic 2019 level of 380.8 million, and it is likely that the 2025 target of 405 million passengers will not be reached. passenger annual rate.

According to VK, the Lithuanian transport sector accounts for 31.8 percent. of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the country.

According to the audit, in order for Lithuania to achieve the targeted reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, compared to 2022, it should decrease by at least 39 percent.

Lithuania is committed to achieve that the share of renewable energy resources in the transport sector by 2030 is at least 15%. all energy.

To achieve these goals, it is planned to allocate 1.58 billion in 2021-2027. euros.
