Edurard Vaitkus, who nominated himself in the presidential elections, announced during the live LRT debates that he was creating a new political force.

Edurard Vaitkus, who nominated himself in the presidential elections, announced during the live LRT debates that he was creating a new political force.

“Using the airwaves granted to me by the law, I declare that a new political force is being created for my support for the president in the elections, the ranks of which are joined by political parties and social movements. I call on all the political and social forces that have not betrayed the nation to unite, stopping the absurd arming and seeking immediate peace and sitting around the round table”, E. Vaitkus said during the LRT debate held on Wednesday evening.

“Let’s show Lithuania that Lithuania can be a strong conciliator of nations, a diplomat. After being elected president, I will only serve the nation and gather a new political force that will work together for Lithuania and for peace,” the candidate emphasized.

ELTA reminds that the first round of the presidential election will take place on May 12.

8 candidates are competing for the post of the head of the country – Gitanas Nausėda, who is seeking a second term, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė nominated by conservatives, representative of the Freedom Party, former chairman of the Constitutional Court (KT) Dainius Žalimas, independent candidates Ignas Vėgėlė and E. Vaitkus, founder of the “Nemunos aušra” party Remigijus Žemaitaitis, Giedrimas Jeglinskas nominated by the Democratic Union “Vardan Lietuvos” and Andrius Mazuronis, chairman of the Labor Party.
