“For the moment, we have 2,800 from the unprepared reserve (…) during the week. I think we will definitely have 3,000 by the weekend.” My predictions were very modest, that 4-5 thousand would register during the period. Now I am increasing the forecasts to 10,000″, said L. Kasciūnas on Wednesday, at the end of the military exercises.

As previously announced, registration for peacetime military commandantships began on May 1.

Evaluating the exercises of the Lithuanian army and NATO allies that took place in the capital and Kaunas, the head of the Ministry of National Defense (KAM) emphasized that the decision to enable the commandantar system in peacetime paid off.

“Really, the exercise throughout Lithuania was a success, because we also mobilized part of the active reserve (…), the commandant riflemen who had their role here, the prepared reserve that received the messages, and of course those now being created (…) commandant offices “, said L. Kasčiūnas.

“The first peace-to-war exercises. Indeed, what we have seen here now and today, and I think the lesson learned is that the decision to postpone the preparation of commandantaries already in peacetime (…) is what we need”, assured the minister.

According to L. Kasčiūnas, after the exercise, further work related to the operation of the commandantar system will await. According to the minister, it will be necessary to plan the number of commandant soldiers, the size of the units, assess what objects they would protect, etc.

“For the next stages, it will be necessary to inventory a clearer picture of those objects and, based on that, calculate how much of that backend capacity will be needed,” he added.

Soldiers enjoy the benefits of the exercise

According to Almantas Leika, head of the Lithuanian Military Academy, the exercises were extremely useful for the soldiers participating in them. According to him, among the functions performed by the army representatives was the protection of important objects.

“First of all, property requisition, protection of important objects, curfew enforcement. Perhaps the most important thing is to establish interaction with the administration of Vilnius city municipality and all other institutions that operate in the municipality”, said A. Leika at the press conference held on Wednesday.

“The benefit we got from all these exercises is great. What we take away from the exercise is that in the next exercise we will be able to tell each other to do what we did in that exercise,” he added.

As previously announced, the exercises of the Lithuanian army and NATO allies are taking place in the capital and Kaunas on May 6-8. During the exercise, the readiness of institutions, bodies and organizations to carry out mobilization and tasks of accepting allies, requisitioning property and announcing curfew was checked.

2.5 thousand people were called to participate in the exercise. active reserve soldiers, several thousand more invited for a short background check procedure. The commandant system was also tested during the exercise.

In the course of the military exercises, a curfew was introduced in Vilnius’ Viršuliškii and Aukšųų Panerių districts and in Kaunas’ Palemons territory from Tuesday to Wednesday.
