Just like on Tuesday, there is a long line of people who want to cast their vote in Lukiškiau Square in the capital. The biggest queues in the city center formed around noon.

Voters will be able to vote on Thursday from 7 am to 8 pm in all 60 municipalities, regardless of where they have declared their place of residence.

Presidential candidates Remigijus Žemaitaitis and Andrius Mazuronis already voted in advance on Wednesday. Vilija Blinkevičiūtė, leader of the Social Democratic Party, Aušrinė Armonaitė, leader of the Freedom Party, and other politicians also voted.

According to the CEC data, on the first day of early voting in the presidential election and the referendum on the preservation of citizenship, a total of more than 40.6 thousand voters voted. This is 1.7 percent of the total number of voters.

The residents of Neringa municipality expressed their will the most actively, while the voters of Šalčininkai district expressed their will the most passively.

ELTA reminds that the three-day early voting in the presidential elections and the referendum on the preservation of citizenship began on Tuesday. The main election day is Sunday.

8 candidates are competing for the post of the head of the country – Gitanas Nausėda, who is seeking a second term, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė nominated by the conservatives, representative of the Freedom Party, former chairman of the Constitutional Court (CT) Dainius Žalimas, independent candidates Ignas Vėgėlė and Eduardas Vaitkus, founder of the “Nemunos aušra” party Remigijus Žemaitaitis , Giedrimas Jeglinskas of the Democratic Union “Vardan Lietuvos” and Chairman of the Labor Party Andrius Mazuronis.

In the referendum ballot, it will be proposed to abandon the sentence currently written in the Constitution: “except for the individual cases provided for by law, no one can be a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania and another state at the same time”. This provision does not allow the preservation of Lithuanian citizenship after acquiring the citizenship of another state.

According to CEC data, a total of 2 million 385 thousand 234 voters have the right to elect the President of Lithuania and express their opinion in the referendum on the preservation of citizenship this year.
