This year, Europe Day is special: we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Lithuania’s membership in the European Union, and on June 9 the European Parliament elections are still waiting.

Therefore, tomorrow May 9 after going out to have lunch in Laisvės avenue or in the old town, exercising on fitness equipment or just getting ready to go for a walk and enjoy the reviving greenery in Ėuolyne, Draugystės or Kalniečiai parks, or maybe just on the way to the polyclinic in Šilainiai – don’t be surprised to meet groups of colorfully dressed young people on even more colorful bicycles or scooters. This shares20 years together with the EU: let’s go!” participants are students of various schools and gymnasiums in Kaunas, who were born after Lithuania joined the club of European Union states. Young people are invited to participate and test their knowledge in fun quizzes, win prizes, take a windmill as a souvenir, a map of Europe or another informational publication to study – let’s celebrate the birthday of the EU and the 20th anniversary of our country’s membership in the EU together!

According to the organizer of the campaign, Diana Lukoševičiūtė-Burneikienė, head of the EuropeDirect Center in Kaunas, this year a different format of the Europe Day commemoration was chosen – the aim is not only to cover the city center in the traditional way, but to reach at different times and have fun congratulating the people of Kaunas on Europe Day in various gathering places and parks in Kaunas.

Participants of the campaign will be able to meet:

  • 12 o’clock In Ažuolyne, Draugystės and Kalniečiai parks
  • 1 p.m.Šilainiai II, Draugystės Park
  • at 2 p.m. In the old town
  • 30 hours On Liberty Avenue

The organizers of the campaign are the Kaunas EuropeDirect center and the Kaunas schoolchildren’s technical creativity center, partners: Kaunas Jesuit high school, VDU Rasa high school, Vyturis high school, Juozos Gruš art high school, Gediminas sports and wellness high school and Simon Daukantas high school.
