Before the elections, a violation was recorded in Šilute, the Tauragė County Police reports.

The preliminary elections of the President of the Republic of Lithuania and the referendum on the amendment of Article 12 of the Constitution began today.

Pre-elections are going smoothly, but on Monday, around 3:20 a.m., irregularities were not avoided in Šilute.

Police officers caught a man who tore off the election poster of one of the candidates for the President of the Republic of Lithuania. The man, born in 1980, was issued an administrative offense protocol for violating public order.

The police draw the public’s attention to the fact that during the upcoming elections, the officers will pay the most attention to all violations related to the elections. Once they are identified, immediate action will be taken to prevent violations.

According to officials, great efforts will be made to make the elections run smoothly and ensure maximum transparency. In order to reduce possible violations, the police will increase the number of officers.

The police also urges residents to be civil, exercise their right to vote and, upon noticing or recording possible violations, report it to the police immediately.
