A wandering roe deer was spotted in Vilnius. The representative of the Department of Environmental Protection, Sigitas Mikėnas, told about animals in the city in the LNK report.

– Beasts in the city, in this case it was a deer.

– Yes, a two- or three-year-old male.

– When such a beast wanders into the city, it is normal, or should it be in the forest?

– Naturally, it seems to the residents of Vilnius county or any other that all animals must live in the forest. We know very well that Vilnius has a number of squares, parks and green areas along the coasts of the Neris and Vilnelė rivers. They are certainly home to more than one roe deer, more than one roe deer, foxes and other, smaller animals. This is natural.

– But if you see that the deer has wandered into a densely populated block of monolithic apartment buildings, where there are no trees, only cars.

– It is possible that the doe got lost. Migration is taking place, which wild animals usually do at dusk or dawn. If the animal started to migrate in the dark, it may get lost, these are natural processes. The days are getting longer and the bright doe felt that he was in some residential block.

The entire LNK report is in the video:

Such cases become particularly active in the spring, namely in the months of May-June, and in the fall, when wild animals migrate from or to their wintering grounds. This is one aspect, another aspect, in the spring season, animals wander into urban areas, because the mothers who raised them are expecting other babies and simply push other babies away so that they should learn to live on their own, look for food and so on. Such cases often occur, they end up in areas where they should not live.

Having felt good, pleasure, he may not withdraw at all.

– Can people help them in any way?

– In any case, human intervention in nature should be very minimal in this place. If the animal has already come to the city, you need to call 112 so that environmentalists can assess the situation, maybe the animal is injured or sick. Of course, there is still a Wild Animal Care Center in Lithuania if an injured animal is walking, for example a moose. Veterinary specialists arrive, have appropriate tranquilizer guns, the animal is put to sleep and taken to a safe, wooded area.

– Do you need help in this case?

– In my understanding, no, unless drivers need to be attentive and careful in order to avoid a traffic accident. And if not the same day, the animal should reach a safe, wooded area the next day.

“Should we try to feed him?”

“I certainly wouldn’t suggest doing that.” There is no need to comfort wild animals because of their beauty, their curiosity, especially at this time of the year, so that they get closer to humans. Having felt good, pleasure, he may not withdraw at all.
