A market consultation is being announced during the initiation of the tender for public transport services in Vilnius – it is planned that 297 electric buses will appear in the capital, carriers will serve 56 routes, “Transportation Services” reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, the carriers who won the tender will transport passengers with new low-floor electric low-capacity midi, two-axle, three-axle buses, and metrobuses. All vehicles will have to be adapted for passengers with individual needs.
The tender for the purchase of passenger transportation services on regular bus routes in the territories of the city of Vilnius and neighboring municipalities was initiated after the capital’s municipal council approved it in March.
The first stage of the tender for the purchase of these services is a market consultation, to which interested service providers are invited, registration for it is possible until May 14, the consultation itself will take place until the end of June.
By 2028, the number of kilometers covered by the capital’s public transport is planned to increase to 67.6 million. kilometers per year, and the tender will be held for 28.4 million kilometers of route service per year.
According to JUDU Public Transport Organization Manager Loreta Levulytė-Staškevičienė, the company hopes that the liberalization of the public transport market in Vilnius will improve the quality of services and the possibilities of communication with the more remote areas of the city.
“All new carriers will organize passenger transport exclusively with electric vehicles. 12 new routes are planned, as many as 44 routes in the capital will be adjusted and run more often, public transport will not have to wait longer than 15 minutes”, – JUDU Public Transport Organization Manager Loreta Levulytė-Staškevičienė is quoted in the report.
The tender for the purchase of services is expected to be announced in July, and the contract with at least one carrier is planned to be signed later this year or early next year.
After the tender, “Vilnius Public Transport” will serve 36.5 million people. kilometers of travel, and the company “Kautra”, with which the contract is still ongoing, will provide 2.7 million. kilometers of travel.
The initial market consultation was held back in February of this year in order to assess the possibilities of market participants to provide passenger transport services under the preliminary purchase conditions and to receive recommendations regarding the provision of passenger transport services.
