In the Kaunas district court, two judgments were announced one after the other, in which scooters are mentioned in the indictment. One – as a tool of crime, the other – as the alleged reason that provoked extraordinary violence against the victim. Both sentences were announced to the same Kaunian, Nerijas Raudonis from Vilijampolė.

He hit so hard that he even broke his finger

Today, 36-year-old R. Raudonius was found guilty of last May’s attack on a neighbor a few years younger, committed in the yard of Kalnų street in Vilijampolė. On May 23 last year, N. Raudonius, who had been convicted three times before, two of them for illegal possession of drugs for his own use, not only hit the mentioned neighbor several times with his hand and kicked him a dozen times, but also jumped on the fallen victim.

Appearing before the court for this violence, N. Raudonius admitted his guilt only partially. And he made an excuse that he was looking after the children outside that day, and the victim himself asked for such discipline, because he was driving too fast near the children on a scooter and did not respond to his remarks that it was dangerous.

However, the judge Arūnas Purvainis who heard the case stated that this defensive version of N. Raudoniaus was not confirmed, because the collected evidence proved that the attack was committed in other circumstances – not while the victim was riding a scooter, but only when he arrived to clarify disagreements about ongoing construction. In addition, the defendant only admitted that he hit the victim in the face, because he himself broke his finger from this blow, but he denied that he jumped on the neighbor’s head.

Today, A. Purvainis sentenced N. Raudunis to the maximum possible 90-day arrest for the aforementioned attack, partially satisfying the victim’s claims. From N. Raudoniaus, he was awarded EUR 2,868 in property and EUR 20,000. EUR non-pecuniary damage.

The bombers had to repair the defect

N. Raudounis can still appeal the aforementioned sentence, which has already become the fifth in his biography. For the same reason, the sentence for damaging or destroying someone else’s property in a generally dangerous manner, which has not yet taken effect and was announced to him by the Kaunas district court on April 19. Then, as already written, N. Raudonius himself went to the scene of the crime – to a private house on V. Lašos street near Kaunas clinics on an electric scooter.

For blowing up the SUV “Mercedes-Benz ML 350” parked there almost three years ago – on the night of May 21, 2021, N. Raudonius was convicted together with two accomplices of solid age. Listening to one of these phone conversations in the case of illegal possession of a large amount of drugs, and was caught in this crime, as it turned out, was committed only in the second attempt, suggests the end. The first time N. Raudounis approached the target on a scooter, it was not possible to detonate it, because one of his accomplices, who was making a homemade explosive, did something wrong, which is why he consulted by phone with those who know more about it, what was wrong.

After fixing the bug after this conversation, the next night – around 3 am. N. Raudonius has already fulfilled his task. The flames that engulfed the SUV during the explosion destroyed not only this vehicle, which its owner, who is self-employed as a dressmaker, valued at 20,200 euros, but also the other victim’s belongings and money, the total value of which is more than 1 thousand. euros. What’s more: the fire, which spread to the 849-euro Kia Sedona parked nearby, destroyed it as well as the fence of the residential house and a private road sign.

Collars are put on the commoners

Since neither N. Raudonius nor his accomplices admitted their guilt, the reason for the aforementioned attack, as well as the possible mastermind of the crime, remained undetermined. However, the judge who examined the case, Živilė Bliūdžiuvienė, sentenced N. Raudoinis, who was accused of damage and destruction of other people’s property in a generally dangerous manner, to 80 days of arrest, which she combined with other punishments given to him by the courts, and the final punishment for this resident of Vilijampole was 90 days of arrest and a fine of 900 euros.

A 90-day arrest was also ordered for one accomplice of N. Raudoniaus, but his execution was postponed for one year, with a collar attached. The second accomplice was sentenced to one year and three months in prison, also with a collar.

In addition, claims for material and non-material damage and legal expenses of the victims were awarded jointly and severally from all three.
