On Tuesday afternoon, a minibus “Mercedes Benz Sprinter” overturned in the Kaunas district, which was transporting two elderly passengers living in a social care home in the Alytus region to a medical institution.

When the 48-year-old driver lost control of the care facility’s car, it ran off the road, hit a pole and flipped onto its side.

The traffic accident happened around 1:00 p.m. 15 min., in the vicinity of Garliava on the A5 road, at the entrance to the viaduct. In addition to the driver, a 75-year-old man and his peer from the same social institution were brought to Kaunas clinics.

Both pensioners from the Alytus region were taken to a medical institution located in Kaunas, where they had to undergo planned treatment services.

Representatives of the ambulance station informed the news portal lrytas.lt that all three injured were conscious, their lives are not in danger.

It is not yet clear if they suffered any broken bones – this will be determined after X-rays are taken at the clinics and other tests are carried out.

The employee of the social care institution driving the minibus was sober. A preliminary investigation will be launched into the accident, during which people were injured. Its reasons are being determined.

After the accident, traffic on this busy stretch of road was closed and there was a traffic jam. Before 5 p.m., the police reported that traffic had resumed.
