On May 8-9, a month before the European Parliament elections and celebrating Europe Day, the Vilnius Town Hall and some other famous buildings of the EU countries, such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the Colosseum in Rome, the Grand Square in Brussels, will be illuminated with the slogan of the election campaign “Vote. So that others don’t decide for you” and the EU flag.
This Europe Day invitation to vote will also be visible on the Irish Parliament and Dublin’s Samuel Beckett Bridge, Valletta’s St. Angel’s Fortress, the Presidential Palace in Bratislava, Sibel Square in Madrid and on the Romanian Parliament Building in Bucharest.
Vilnius Town Hall will be lit up in EU colors on May 8. and May 9 in the evenings after sunset.
The European Parliament, together with national and local self-government institutions, is sending 440 million the message of Europeans about the importance of community and participation in the EP elections. May 9 Europe Day is celebrated to commemorate the historic Schuman Declaration, which raised the idea of a new political cooperation in Europe without war. On this day, you are invited not only to remember the beginning of the establishment of the EU, but also to foster common values.
