Wormwood is a plant with silver leaves, a strong smell and a bitter taste. It usually grows along the roads, in meadows, in forest plots. In the garden, it is customary to get rid of it – it is a weed.

Meanwhile, not everyone knows that it is one of the oldest medicinal plants, besides, it has many useful properties.

Let’s find out the benefits of wormwood in the garden and why you shouldn’t rush to uproot it.

Wormwood is a benefit from a weed that isn’t really a weed

Wormwood occupies an honorable place in folk medicine, so it is often grown as a medicinal plant.

In addition, it is also considered a strong insecticide and repellent to help kill or repel flying and crawling insects or larvae.

Wormwood is afraid of aphids, sawflies, whiteflies, moths, and carrot flies.

Wormwood also “works” as a preventive measure against some plant diseases.

How to use wormwood in the garden and garden

Some gardeners scatter wormwood twigs along the rows of carrots, on cabbages, and hang them on trees and bushes.

Is it possible to plant wormwood in the garden?

It is possible and necessary, and not only to repel insects, but also to prepare an infusion of wormwood – it has a notorious repellent effect.

To prepare a wormwood infusion, pour a large bundle (300 g) of fresh herbs with 5 liters of boiling water and leave to swell for an hour.

Spray this infusion on plants affected by pests and their numbers will be significantly reduced.

Where is the best place to plant wormwood on the plot?

Under a tree or bush (in the circle of the bush) – if wormwood grows almost right next to the trunk, it will protect against crawling pests and partially against flying pests:

  • ants avoid wormwood, so there will be no aphids;
  • caterpillars and moths do not tolerate wormwood;
  • mice do not like this fragrant plant – they try not to settle where it grows.

In winter, wormwood can be wrapped around the trunks of fruit trees, then hares do not eat their bark.

Also, this “weed” looks good in the flower garden – it is unpretentious, resistant to drought.

What to plant next to wormwood?

Lavender, bellflower, santola – they will look good together, and next to roses, the plant will repel aphids.
