President Gitanas Nausėda, who is seeking re-election, remains the most favorably evaluated candidate for the presidency, according to the latest “Baltijos researches” survey.

During the survey conducted in April, residents were asked what their opinion is – favorable or unfavorable – about politicians seeking the post of the head of the country. Almost three-quarters (73%) of the respondents responded favorably about the current owner of the Daukanta Square Palace, while one-fifth (21%) said the opposite. Another 6 percent of those interviewed said they did not have an opinion about G. Nausėdas.

At that time, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, who is trying her hand at the presidential elections for the second time, remains the most unfavorably evaluated candidate. Only 21% spoke positively about it. respondents, and 74 percent responded negatively. Another 5 percent said he has no opinion about the presidential candidate nominated by the conservatives.

Residents evaluate the three politicians aspiring for the post of the country’s leader in a similar way – the founder of the “Nemunos ausra” party Remigijius Žemaitaitis (45% approve and 40% disapprove), the leader of the Labor Party Andrii Mazuronis (40% approve and 41% disapprove) and the lawyer Igna Vēgėlė (40 percent evaluate favorably and 42 percent unfavorably).

True, 12 percent. of the respondents said that they have no opinion about R. Žemaitaitis, who refused the mandate of a member of the Seimas this week, and 3 percent. does not know him at all. At that time, almost a fifth – 18 percent. – indicated that he has no position regarding A. Mazuronis, 1 percent. said they did not know him. I. Vēgėlė was similarly assessed – 16 percent. spoke neither positively nor negatively about the lawyer, and 2% said he did not know this politician.

Three more candidates – Dainius Žalimas nominated by the Freedom Party, doctor Eduardas Vaitkus and Giedrimas Jeglinskas of the Democratic Union “Vardan Lietuvos” – have not received the favor of the population so far. In general, about a tenth of the respondents indicated that they did not know such presidential candidates.

One in four has a favorable opinion of Eduardas Vaitkäs (25% evaluates favorably), 37%. speak unfavorably. Also, a quarter (26%) did not express a clear position, and 12% did not. indicated that they did not know who E. Vaitkus was.

G. Jeglinskas is positively evaluated by 24 percent. of those surveyed, 35 percent responded negatively about the policy. 28 percent indicated that they had no opinion about the “Vardan Lietuvos” candidate, while 13 percent indicated that they did not know about him.

Although the last three candidates are still the least known, in the last month the popularity of E. Vaitkaus and G. Jeglinskas increased by 7 percentage points, while that of D. Žalimo increased by 6 percentage points.

The survey took place in 2024. on April 10-21. During the research, 1020 Lithuanian residents (aged 18 and older) were interviewed by personal interview, the survey was conducted at 109 sampling points. The composition of the respondents corresponds to the composition of the adult population of Lithuania by gender, age, nationality, type of settlement. The opinion of the surveyed people reflects the opinion of Lithuanian residents aged 18 and older. The error of research results is up to 3.1 percent.
