According to a statement released by the US Secret Service, a person was found dead in a car that crashed around 10 p.m. 30 minutes local time (Sunday at 5:30 a.m. Lithuanian) hit the outer gate of the White House complex on time.
All security protocols were implemented following the incident, but the White House was not threatened, the statement added.
The identity of the person driving the car has not yet been established.
A similar incident occurred in January, when police officers near the White House arrested a person whose car also crashed into the outer gates of the presidential palace complex.
In recent years, there have been several attempts to break into the territory of the White House, so in 2020 it was decided to build a higher and stronger metal fence around the entire complex.
In 2017, a man who climbed the White House fence walked around the grounds for more than 16 minutes before being arrested. During that incident, then-President Donald Trump was in the White House.
In 2014, during Barack Obama’s presidency, a mentally challenged military veteran jumped the White House fence, ran across the lawn and entered the building with a knife in his pocket.
