The second Olympic 3×3 basketball selection tournament continues in Utsunomiya (Japan) on Sunday. In it, the Lithuanian men’s national team also seeks a ticket to Paris (Evaldas Džiaugys, Aurelius Pukelis, Darius Tarvydas and Šarūnas Vingelis).

On Sunday in the semi-finals from 12:20 p.m. the Dutch will play against the Mongolians, and from 12:45 p.m. the French will meet the Lithuanians. Pairs winners at 1:45 p.m. will play the final for the only ticket to the Paris Olympics. The French, although they are the hosts of the games, have not yet secured a place in the Olympics.

Lithuanians in group A 21:14 defeated the Brazilians, but 18:21 lost the battle of favorites against the Dutch. Later, our people, having nowhere to retreat, 21:12 left no hope for Puerto Rico and advanced to the semi-finals.

If Lithuanians fail to qualify for the Olympics in Ucunomija, ours will have one more chance on May 16-19. in the tournament to be held in Debrecen (Hungary). 3 tickets will be distributed in the last qualifying tournament.

At the moment, 4 of the 8 participants of the men’s 3×3 basketball tournament at the Paris Olympics are known. According to the ranking, Serbia, the USA and China entered the Olympics, and Latvia won the first qualifying tournament.

Lithuanian basketball players did not qualify for the Tokyo Olympics after losing to Latvians in the selection. It was Latvians who later became Olympic champions.
