Eight more scientific studies will open hitherto unknown layers of the history of Vilnius. 45 thousand This year, eleven researchers will be allocated euros, who will study the historical and architectural past of the capital. Throughout the history of scholarships, the largest amount of support has been allocated to research by scientists.

“The rich history of Vilnius is told by city streets, building facades, and historical annals. We can discover part of the history of Vilnius on our own, other historical plots require scientific research. Every year we have the opportunity to discover the layers of the history of the city that have been formed for centuries. I hope that the city’s support will allow the researchers to discover and get to know something that has not yet been discovered,” says the Vice Mayor of Vilnius, Simona Bieliūnė.

Scholarships for Vilnius history researchers are intended for eight studies (eleven researchers):

1. dr. 8.4 thousand to Darius Staliūnas. Eur scholarship for the planned comprehensive study on the topic of urbanization change;

2. dr. Tomas Čelkis 5 thousand. Eur scholarship for the study “Vilnius through the eyes of foreigners XV-XVIII centuries”;

3. Assoc. Dr. Loreta Skurvydaitei and dr. 4 thousand to Inga Leonavičiūtė. Eur scholarship for the study “Restoration of Vilnius University in 1919: between Vytis and Erel”;

4. Assoc. Dr. 7 thousand for Joozaps Blažiūnas. Eur scholarship for research on the daily life of the inhabitants of the city of Vilnius during the First World War;

5. PhD student Alisa Miller 7.5 thousand. Eur scholarship for the study “(Un)armed Jewish resistance in the Vilnius ghetto 1941-1943: beliefs, goals and mutual relations of leaders and groups”;

6. dr. 3.9 thousand to Aelita Ambrulevičiūta. Eur scholarship for 2023. the continuation of the research about J. Basanavičius Street and about the suburb of Pohulianka, expanding the chronological framework of the street research up to 1940;

7. Jurga Minčinauskiena and Kristina Kleponyta-Šemeškiena 5 thousand. Eur scholarship for research on the development of graphic art since the 20th century. from the middle to the present day, presenting the institutional activities of the Vilnius Graphic Art Center and its direct contribution to the development of Lithuanian graphic art;

8. 4.2 thousand to Agne Poškiena and Julia Jonušaita. Eur scholarship for the study “Development of the development of the astronomical observatory complex of the Vilnius Steponas Bator University in 1919-1939”.

Researchers and/or researchers from Lithuanian higher schools, scientific research institutes, research centers, research and study institutions and other organizations operating in the field of scientific research, as well as organizations of scientists and/or researchers, could submit applications for the scholarship according to the approved research topics of 2024. The scholarships were awarded by a commission of independent experts in the field of historical science and representatives of the Vilnius municipality.

This year, scientists and researchers were offered to choose from as many as 16 topics.
