The editorial staff of AlytusPlius.lt received an unusual request for help. After sending more than one letter, Alytus St. Benediktas high school students claimed that earlier it was possible to eat zeppelins with crackers in the school canteen, but now crackers are forbidden. According to the students, this is like making a mockery of the national dish and claimed that such an arrangement is unacceptable to many.
“Alytus St. The nurse of Benediktas Gymnasium forbids making crackers for zeppelins in the canteen. Zeppelins have had crackers all year, but last week it was banned. Banned not only pretzels for the Lithuanian national dish, but also Kiev meatballs. This is a mockery of the national food. On behalf of all high school students, we always eat zeppelins with crackers. There is a great dissatisfaction of the students”, – reads the letter sent to the editors of AlytusPlius.lt.
According to the students, they even collected signatures to express their will for the crackers to be returned. According to high school students, 176 people signed.
Contacting St. Lina Kankevičiene, Deputy Director of Benediktas Gymnasium for Education, Acting Director, said that previously students had the opportunity to choose whether to serve zeppelins with or without crackers. However, recently there have been changes to encourage young people to eat healthier.
“Pupils’ meals are supervised by our Health Specialist, following the meal description. Various researches and initiatives are taking place at the institution, they want the students to eat as healthy as possible, but perhaps this is not acceptable for everyone. The high school students did not approach me personally, but they approached the Health Specialist”, said L. Kankevičienė.
She assured that she will contact the Health Specialist in the near future, inquire about the referral she has received, and find a solution to resolve this situation.
