in 2024 April 25 The Panevėžys College hosted the international student research conference “Roots of Science 2024”, the purpose of which is to gather and promote students’ research activities, to deepen and expand professional knowledge and research skills.

The event, which has become a tradition, attracted more than 100 participants from our country’s higher education institutions: Kaunas University of Technology, Vytautas the Great University, Lithuanian Higher Maritime School, Alytus, Kaunas, Klaipėda State, Kolping, Šiauliai State, Vilnius and Panevėžys Colleges, as well as guests from Latvia, Portugal and Ukraine. . Research works of 85 students were presented remotely at the conference.

At the beginning of the conference, the participants were welcomed by the deputy director for studies, dr. Jurgita Lieponienė:

“I am glad that for the second year in a row the conference is international, attracting participants not only from various Lithuanian but also foreign higher education institutions.

The topics of the reports are very diverse and relevant, including the problems relevant to health sciences, the realities of the activities of social workers, the problems of preschool children’s education, computer science engineering research, legal issues, logistical solutions, construction engineering and research in other fields of science.”

The deputy sincerely thanked all speakers, authors of articles, their supervisors, Panevėžys city municipality administration, which provided financial support for the organization of this event.

Nedas Pšitulskas, chairman of the Council of the Student Scientific Society (SSD), during his welcoming speech, wished the speakers of the conference success in presenting their reports. The president of the student representation, Darius Kriukovskis, who previously headed the SMD, not only moderated the conference this year, but also presented his work at it. According to the student, “participation in the conference provides a useful experience for students of all courses, and especially for graduates preparing for the defense of their theses. Thanks to this conference, students of all Lithuanian higher schools can publish scientific articles in the “Mokslo šaknys” magazine and present their research publicly. It’s great practice before defending theses, gaining more confidence and courage.”

In the plenary session, which was moderated by the project manager of the college, Kara Lina Guokė, 11 presentations were presented in English and Lithuanian. The participants discussed global topics relevant to students: youth participation in social media in Lithuania and Ukraine, cardiovascular diseases and their prevention in Latvia, Sweden’s experience in applying the storytelling method as a tool to develop climate neutrality; The impact of rising U.S. dollar supply on real estate prices in the United States, enzymatic catalysis in landfill leachate treatment, the application of economic and ecological driving principles in transportation companies, a more sustainable port-city interaction, youth attitudes toward oral health, and what makes students happy.

In the afternoon, the participants continued their work in 5 sections, which dealt with specific problems of pharmacotechnics, nursing, oral hygiene, educational sciences, social work, law, technological sciences, business, management, and logistics. 14-16 reports were presented in each section.

The best student papers will be published in the peer-reviewed collection of conference papers “Roots of Science 2024”. About 60 articles have been submitted for the 15th issue of the publication, which will be financed with the funds of the Panevėžys city municipality budget. The editorial board of the publication has selected more than 40 articles that deal with current issues in the life of today’s youth and the problematic issues of the chosen field of study.
