Lithuania on May 2, reminds ELTA:

in 1873 Poet and diplomat Jurgis Baltrušaitis was born in Paantvardi, Jurbarkas county. Died in 1944 in Paris.

in 1919 The Lithuanian delegation at the Paris Peace Conference published a note on the questionable German-Lithuanian and Polish-Lithuanian borders.

in 1919 Kaunas Medical Society was founded.

in 1990 The Supreme Council-Restorative Seimas adopted the law “On the restoration of the rights of persons repressed for resisting the occupation regimes”.

in 1995 the Association of Lithuanian Art Creators was established.

in 2000 The Seimas decided to stop the first unit of the Ignalina nuclear power plant until January 1, 2005.

in 2002 A friendship group with Lithuania was established in the Greek parliament.

in 2005 The Lithuanian Musicians’ Union organized the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the birth of opera soloist Elena Čiudakova (1925–1973) in Vilnius City Hall. On that occasion, a CD with archival recordings of E. Čiudakova’s voice was released.

in 2006 At the “Vilnius Conference 2006: a common vision for a common neighborhood” held in the Central Palace of Vilnius University under the auspices of the presidents of Lithuania and Poland, Valdas Adamkaus and Lech Kaczynski, in one of the four forums – the Youth Forum – representatives from 15 foreign countries discussed issues of concern to young people: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria , Estonia, Georgia, United Kingdom, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Ukraine and Germany.

in 2007 The fourth honorary consulate of Lithuania was opened in Bursa, Turkey.

in 2011 a long-time professor of the Department of Pedagogy of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, doctor of art studies, master of education passed away at the age of 76. doctor, president of the Lithuanian alternative artistic education center, director of the Foundation for the Support of Artistic Education of the Disabled, academician of the International Academy of Sciences (ITTAS), member of the International Council of Musical and Artistic Education Albertas Piličiauskas.

in 2011 The first official representation of Israel in Lithuania – the Honorary Consulate of Israel – was opened in Vilnius.

in 2016 Stasys Petronaitis, actor of Juozos Miltinii’s drama theater and cinema, died at the age of 84.
