Registration for military commandantships begins in peacetime

According to the Ministry of National Defense, this can be done at the nearest Conscription and Recruitment Service (KPKT) unit (there are currently 26 of them in Lithuania) or by filling out a form on the website karys.lt

Registration for peacetime commandant units will continue until August 31.

Currently, the Seimas is considering amendments, which would legalize the commandant’s office, which would enable conscripts from the prepared reserve, who are not assigned to the active reserve, and the unprepared reserve, i.e. persons with a civic and patriotic attitude, to participate in exercises and training.

According to the plan presented by the Ministry of Defense a little earlier, these groups of persons – soldiers of the prepared reserve and patriotic people – together with the commandant riflemen of the Lithuanian Rifle Association, would be integrated into the commandant units.

In peacetime, their military training would be ensured by the National Defense Volunteer Forces. It is planned to establish 27 commandant offices in Lithuania.

Persons registered in commandant units will be trained for 3-10 days a year, being invited to exercises in this unit, together with other trained reserve soldiers assigned to these units.

In total, it is planned that there will be 10.6 thousand people in commandant offices. prepared reserve soldiers, about 2 thousand shooters, 800 KASP volunteers. KAM expects that several thousand active citizens will respond to the invitation.

The commandant unit has the following functions: fight against illegal armed groups, protection of important objects and infrastructure, installation of checkpoints and ensuring evacuation processes, monitoring of the information environment.

It is intended to start staffing commandants from October. The Ministry of National Defense indicates that additional funding for this project will not be needed for the time being, it will be implemented from internal resources.
