This week, the exhibition space of the National Museum of Lithuania, the House of Stories, celebrates its birthday. In just three years, 12 exhibitions have been held in this department, and in the coming months the museum hopes to welcome its hundred thousandth visitor. The House of Stories will welcome him in a memorable way, but until that happens, we invite you to celebrate and make sure that good stories have already found their homes during these years.

Rūta Kačkutė, the general director of the National Museum of Lithuania, is convinced that visitors have already taken a liking to the House of Stories: “Visitors identify this museum primarily with international, high-level exhibitions. They emphasize the accessibility of the museum, when stories are told in an understandable way for people of all ages – adults and children – creativity of presentation, relevance for people of various interests. It is not easy to convey complex topics and the latest scientific discoveries to visitors in a simple and interesting way, but the success lies in the storytelling method and topics, not in didactics. Therefore, the name perfectly reflects the essence of this museum.”

The variety of exhibition topics is also important for the House of Stories: for three years, Arūnas Baltėnas and Antanas Ingelevičius’ photography exhibitions, the contemporary textile exhibition “Imagine!” were held here, families were attracted by the real ancient Egyptian mummies on display, and the stories of the old Vilnius residents. Exhibitions also bring up-to-date extremely distant history, which is more difficult for modern people to understand: Marija Gimbutienė’s theories of Old Europe, the phenomenon of the Amber Road, which shows our connections with the then flourishing Roman Empire.

“The museum does not shy away from social topics either – now there are even two such exhibitions at the House of Stories: about the history of Lithuanian migration and the intriguing world of conspiracy theories. Birthday tours of these exhibitions are already sold out, but they will be free to see all Sunday. The exhibition will be updated with a lecture about witches by Kristina Petrauskė, better known as Chistorikė, and the audiovisual performance of the Table Theater “Journey to another forest”, inspired by Issa Watanabe’s wordless book “Migrants”, Simona Širvydaitė-Šliupienė, head of the House of Stories, invites you to her birthday party.

The celebration will be crowned with a free concert by the band “Arklio galia”. “Arklio galia” presents itself as a group of five men who cannot stop themselves from playing, which has been pounding various Lithuanian pop music for more than 18 years.

The members of the group promise that during the birthday of the House of Stories, saxophones will hum madly, guitars will strum wildly, drums will clatter madly, and the most beautiful Lithuanian lyrics will come out of the mouths of the musicians.

The birthday of the House of Stories will be celebrated on May 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
