On the Town Hall Square, the citizens of Alytis celebrated the 20th anniversary of Lithuania’s membership in the European Union

On Tuesday afternoon, the 20th anniversary of Lithuania’s membership in the European Union was celebrated in Alytus Town Hall Square. A concert by the collectives of the Youth Centers, the performances of the circus studio “Dzūkija” of the Culture Center and the orchestra of the Land Forces of the Lithuanian Armed Forces awaited those gathered here.

Alytus city vice-mayor Jurgita Šukevičienė congratulated the people of Alytus on the holiday. “We have been members of the European Union (EU) for 20 years. That time passed quickly and imperceptibly. And today it seems very common to live the way we live, to travel, communicate, and be with each other freely and without restrictions. In fact, Europe seems to have shrunk and become a part of our daily lives. After becoming a member of the EU, many opportunities have opened up, we can cooperate with other EU countries, work, study, learn, share experience”, said J. Šukevičienė.

She urged us to be proud that we are part of the EU family, to contribute with our work to the strengthening of the EU and the creation of its future.

“Because only by being close and together can we feel safe. When we are together, we are strong”, said J. Šukevičienė.

The people of Alytis will have a rich time in the evening as well. 6 p.m. Alytus film club “Kino kablys” invites you to meet at the “Dainava” cinema, where the screening of the documentary “KARTA.EU” will take place. The film will reveal the picture of the first Lithuanian generation that grew up in the European Union. The director of the film, Eimantas Belica, will also take part in the screening. We invite you to participate!
