Fire on the 12th floor of the Vilnius apartment building – burning oil: a small child was saved, traffic was blocked

Around 5:25 p.m. The evacuation of residents has been announced in the Antakalnis apartment building, where the fire has just been extinguished.

Residents of Vilnius were strongly asked to leave their homes urgently, as a gas leak is suspected.

True, in less than half an hour the situation was already under control again. The foremen of the gas emergency service and firefighters who left the apartment building informed the residents of Vilnius that they can try to return home again.

The commotion started with a fire

As told 15 minutes, the initial commotion here began, before 4 p.m. upon receiving a report of a fire.

According to witnesses, the stairwell was heavily smoky.

It soon became clear where the smoke was coming from: the fire started in one apartment on the top floor, in the kitchen.

There was also a small child. Fortunately, he managed to evacuate – he safely hid from the fire and smoke with his neighbors.

In the Situation Coordination Department of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department (PAGD). 15 minutes learned that at 4:16 p.m. the fire on the 12th floor was already contained.

According to preliminary data, while cooking at home, the oil somehow caught fire in the kitchen. A small child was also in the apartment at the time. According to the PAGD guard, he was not injured. The boy was able to be taken out of the apartment while the commotion was going on in the house, he was waiting safely with the neighbors. At the height of the incident, the child was examined by medics, who confirmed that everything is fine.

After stopping the spread of the fire, the firefighters took care of how to ventilate the rooms as quickly as possible, including the staircase. “The stairwells are still smoky, especially near the elevators, and the stench of smoke is also entering residents’ homes. Many windows of the apartment building are still open, so people will probably come home after work and feel the heat,” thought one witness of the event.

I had to regulate the traffic

At that time, police officers were regulating traffic on Antakalnis street at this high-rise building marked with number 50. At one point, traffic at the scene was completely prohibited, but soon this security measure was partially withdrawn.

Before 5 p.m. traffic on Antakalnis street towards the center was still closed. Traffic is already allowed to move in the opposite direction. At that time at approximately 5:15 p.m. movement was already unhindered in both directions.
