April 29 an important and significant date for the dance community as it marks International Dance Day. While this day will be celebrated today and throughout the week with dance-filled events, the Contemporary Dance Association (hereinafter referred to as the Contemporary Dance Association) has been celebrating this day for many years by awarding its most deserving members. Among the 68 members, two members were awarded in the categories of most memorable choreographer and most memorable dancer, according to a press release.

The most memorable 2023 this year, the choreographer’s prize was awarded to Greta Grinevičiūta for the dance documentaries “Air’s Dance” (producer: Lithuanian Dance Information Center) and “Dance for Dad” (producer: “Laboratory of Art and Science”). In the first film, the laureate invites you to meet the Lithuanian dance creator Airas Naginevičiūtė in an unconventional way, and in the movie “Dance for Dad” Greta Grinevičiūtė seeks a deeper connection with her father: she tells about the play “Dance for the Vacuum Cleaner and Dad” created for him and successfully shown in the theater for several years, shares her thoughts about dance, performs excerpts from the play, improvises.

Greta Grinevičiūtė is a contemporary dance performer and creator, one of the founders of the independent contemporary dance art organization Be Kompanijos. Greta has presented such dance works as “I slave: A modern love story” and “I’m going to buy milk”. Šeškinė” (“Without Company”), “Dance for Object and Child” (“Laboratory of Art and Science”) and others, and movie lovers could see her in the recently released film “You don’t remember anything to me” (dir. Marija Kavtaradze).

ŠŠA’s most memorable 2023 the dancer’s prize was awarded to Sigita Juraškaita for her roles in Vilma Pitrinaitė’s performance “MATCH 3” and Pauliaus Prievelis’ performance “Tylėmaii”. As Sigita herself says, the last performance brought joy and hope to her life: “I can still be on stage to my full potential. Those moments when you can release energy on stage that doesn’t want to be controlled, is a gift.”

Sigita Juraškaitė completed contemporary dance-acting studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, participates in the performances of the most famous Lithuanian contemporary dance choreographers, and has been engaged in creative and pedagogical activities for more than a decade. In addition to the works mentioned above, the dancer also worked in such works as the dance performance for the Internet “Vonia”, the performances “Z+”, “Popular problems”, “I’m going to buy milk. Šeškinė” (“Without company”), etc.

The International Dance Day is celebrated not only by the ŠŠA awards, but also by the activities of the ŠŠA members spread throughout the week:

  • April 29 4 p.m. Low Air Dance School event “The City as a Body – Yard Games | International Dance Day” in Vilnius.
  • April 30 7 p.m. The premiere of the dance performance “HAIRY” by ŠŠŠA member Dovydas Strimaitis at the international contemporary dance festival “New Baltic Dance”.
  • April 30 7 p.m. Vytis Jankauskas Theater performance “Decreation” in Kaunas.
  • April 30 7 p.m. “ULNA dance company” event dedicated to International Dance Day “Reflections” in Zapyškis.
  • April 30 – May 4 performance “L’OLYMPIADE DES OLYMPIADES” in Nice, France. Laurynas Žakevičius, member of ŠŠA, is participating.
  • May 1 7 p.m. Dance theater “Aura” performance “Kartotaoi” at Kaunas cinema center “Romuva”.
  • May 2 6:30 p.m. Sheik Dance Theater performance 3-10 years old. for children “White Lullaby” in Klaipėda.
  • May 2-4 Dance theater “Dansema” interactive dance performance for 6-36 months. “Colorful games” for children in Marijampole, Gižai and Lazdijai.
  • May 4-5 Premiere of Agnija Šek’s “Urban legends” (dir. Vidovszky György) at Kolibri Theater, Budapest, Hungary.
