When you nurture a culture of training new leaders, you also improve yourself as a leader. Such a strategy requires more time, but in the long term it gives better results, emphasizes Renatas Degulis, CEO of UAB Vita Baltic International, one of the largest foam factories in the Baltic states, in an interview about business leadership.

What is the culture of the organization, what does the manager do for employee development, or is the manager himself always a leader?

For several decades, the employees were more attached to Msgr. For Danes, this attachment was so strong that they did not change their workplace even if they were led by a bad manager.

Currently, employees move more freely in the labor market, they change jobs more boldly, so the demands on managers are growing. Unemployment in Lithuania is very low at 6%, which means that an employee can find another job relatively easily. If you are not attached to a geographical area, it is even easier to change jobs. The competition between companies for employees encourages companies to allow their employees to expose themselves. If the roads in Lithuania were better and at least the big cities could be reached comfortably and in a shorter time, the competition would be even greater, then we would have even more good managers and leaders in the collectives.

When the manager is also a leader, then we have a managerial scenario, but there may be other circumstances in life. The manager, according to his competence, is always responsible for the final financial result of the company, but as a leader, the manager can also be poor. Then the team unites to j. Such a team can also work successfully at times, but it will most likely have several informal leaders who unite the team. In this case, what matters is whether they connect companies using good management practices or choose intrigue and similar undesirables. If we have the first case, then such a leader can leave the company after some time and realize his visions in another place. He will no longer act like a bad manager. In other words, there is something to learn and a bad example, to realize what you don’t want to do. If you don’t want to be treated like that, then don’t act like that either. If you want to be respected, start by respecting others.

How does the next generation of the new labor market change?

Let’s see how the definitions change again. Kakada’s new generation includes those born in the last 30 years, later in 20 years, even later in 15 years, and now we are approaching 10 12 year period. Current managers have to adapt to new times throughout their careers.

There are also older people in the labor market who have had to work with bad managers. I hope the manager doesn’t grow up. These are the demands since yesterday.

Younger employees are constantly changing the labor market, they are much more mobile, and their expectations and requirements for the manager are higher. A young man thinks about equal opportunities, men’s culture, considers what is encouraged in him, what are the opportunities for improvement and learning. Now the requirements for the manager are constantly increasing, so it is more difficult to be a manager and therefore it is also more difficult to raise new leaders.

Is the leader’s leadership important to our image. Do the results speak for themselves, and the leader’s personality is no longer so important?

When I was choosing where to work, I started on the Internet, www.rekvizitai.lt, to gather information about the manager elsewhere: what are his values, how does he think, does his work match his ideals. Of course, it is important to correctly select and evaluate the sources of such information.

We consider ourselves to be rational people, but now there is a lot of talk about the fact that we make many decisions based on our emotions, so the first impression, the image, is very important.

I like the saying that we come to work for the image, and we go for the manager, more precisely for our direct manager. The bigger the mon, the more different grand managers there are and not all of them may be good. Sometimes a good image attracts headhunters. I lure good employees away from you, they have a life contract. But in such cases, I mean that we are doing something well, that we are able to develop our employees. However, if employees leave the company and go to work for lower wages or more important positions, then this is already a signal that something is wrong in the company.

When an educated leader leaves the country, or when you need reinforcements, where will you eat him?

There are two choices existing mons employees or the labor market. We have given our employees a chance the last few times. When organizing the selection, we apply the same criteria to both our employees and candidates. Our employee must also pass an interview at the employee selection company and other selection steps.

What does it take for new leaders to grow in me?

A leader who is pursuing a short-term personal goal may be comfortable when there are no other leaders in the team. Then he is difficult to replace, such a step is expensive for shareholders, so such a manager can feel more secure.

My values ​​encourage me to grow strong women. And I want to have competition when people grow up behind you, they encourage you to stretch yourself. That way, in the long run, you win.

In order for me to grow as a leader, it is necessary to create a development and learning environment. One of the manager’s priorities should be to notice and grow the team. A company can have a very strong manager, with a very strong vision and sales strategy, and such a company can grow without another leader for a while, but there will come a time when the manager himself becomes a limitation to growth. And then he will start looking for someone who can help him, but such a person may not appear in my mind.

It should be noted that in the beginning, growth with the team can be slower, because the team members have to connect with each other. Later, the prover will be higher. I am a firm believer that management and leadership is a team effort. The manager’s job is to bring the team together, not to teach them to do everything the best. The leader must connect, unify through values, culture, standards, and not as common tools.

How to spot potential leaders?

If there are several employees working in the company, the manager can see several levels of management, if the company is even bigger, he will not be able to notice all the employees. If he creates the right culture, his team will. The most important thing is that there is an atmosphere of security. If employees feel safe, then leaders take certain actions. We apply in the company Lean methodology, we have fourteen committees. Informal leaders already work in them. The leader must notice potential leaders, pay attention to them and develop them step by step. At the same time, it is always necessary to check and compare the employees working within the company with other candidates. If both mons and iors candidates are equally strong, then you can choose your own employee. And it is possible to start a new water company during training, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be for us.

How to reconcile the shareholders’ requirement to achieve a certain goal with soft management?

It is important for the manager not to get confused it is not necessary to have locks in our office, but to organize massage sessions every Tuesday. It is important not to forget that there are shareholders and their expectations. When the result meets the expectations, then the atmosphere is also better. If the goals are not achieved, the atmosphere deteriorates. The manager’s task in this case is to be able to communicate to the team that the situation is not good, that we are not reaching the goal. However, this should be done taking into account the circumstances and without causing too much anxiety.

Can technology replace managers, leaders?

Artificial intelligence can more accurately calculate customer needs, prepare a strategy, but an employee will still be needed to implement all these tasks. And if you need employees, then you also need a person to motivate them. In other words, leaders will be needed in the future.
