Train traffic has resumed

Train traffic on the Vilnius–Klaipėda and Kaunas–Šiauliai routes has already resumed. Passengers continue their journey by trains no. 781 (Vilnius–Šiauliai) and no. 42 (Kaunas–Šiauliai). The traffic of other trains (No. 17 Vilnius–Klaipėda, No. 56 Kaunas–Šiauliai) may be delayed up to 20 minutes.

A hand grenade was found during the work

15 minutes photojournalist Erikas Ovčarenko, who was at the scene, stated that around 1:00 p.m. an explosion was heard. It was decided to dispose of the found explosive on the spot. This was done by the military.

15 minutes a hand grenade was reportedly found near the railway. It was discovered by workers while performing electrical work and digging the ground.

Stopped trains

According to the information of the Kaunas Police Commissariat, near Jonava Taurosta st. a suspicious object similar to an explosive was found near the railway bridge.

“Firefighters are on the scene. 12:21 p.m. a message was received from the Kaunas AVPK that the “Shield” plan was being introduced and the firefighters went on standby. The place of the incident is in an open area, there are no buildings around,” said Edita Zdanevičienė, a representative of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department.

As a result of the incident, traffic is stopped on the Vilnius–Klaipėda and Kaunas–Šiauliai routes, trains no. 781 (Vilnius–Šiauliai) and no. 42 (Kaunas–Šiauliai). Trains may be delayed for at least 60 minutes.

The traffic of other trains (No. 17 Vilnius–Klaipėda, No. 56 Kaunas–Šiauliai) may also be disrupted. LTG Infra’s responsible persons communicate with the services and will constantly update the information.
