Federal prosecutors in Germany are already investigating wiretapping of military conversations about Ukraine. In March, this conversation spread on various Russian social networks.
The latest security flaw reported by Zeit Online again involves online video conferencing tool WebEx, a popular public audio and video meeting platform that has added security buffers.
According to Zeit Online, simple search words typed into the search box provided access to meetings of German forces.
According to the news site’s announcement, it was possible to find more than 6 thousand. meetings, some of which had to be classified due to the confidentiality of the information.
Some of these meetings reportedly discussed sensitive issues, including Kyiv’s requested long-range Taurus cruise missiles and the issue of disinformation.
248 thousand German soldiers have access to remote meetings. Zeit Online reported that some meeting rooms were not even password protected.
Zeit Online said the military only became aware of the security lapses when journalists from the news website approached the country’s armed forces for comment on the matter.
A spokesman for the German military confirmed to AFP that there were glitches on the WebEx website that were only fixed when they were made aware of them.
