“Modern methods of wood processing and packaging contribute to the preservation of the environment – with the help of new solutions, raw wood is used to the maximum, leaving a minimum of waste, and the automatic production palletizing system ensures the most efficient filling of pallets”, – says Darius Lackus, manager of VLI Timber, another benefit of the implemented project. – In this way, the pallet areas are used more efficiently, more production can be loaded into the same vehicle, the load on the roads and the amount of exhaust gases are reduced.”

The benefit of the bilateral partnership is the joint implementation of modernization projects

In order to strengthen bilateral relations with Lithuania and reduce economic and social differences in the European Economic Area, Norway provides continuous financial support to our country’s companies. VLI Timber, in close cooperation with the Norwegian company Vepak, applied for funding last year. The goal of automating wood preparation, firewood production and packaging processes was set by consensus. Last August, the financial support provided by Norway amounted to 516.7 thousand. EUR, and more than 517 thousand. EUR for the implementation of this project was allocated by “VLI Timber” itself.

The project “New technological solutions for digitalization and automation of production processes” was implemented in less than nine months, during which the firewood factory purchased an innovative firewood cutting and splitting line, as well as a product palletizing robot. These technologies will help speed up and organize production more efficiently and reduce its costs. A fully automated firewood cutting and splitting line will speed up the production process and more than 40 percent. increase production volumes, reduce the need for human resources.

“Now one worker can supervise the entire crossing and splitting line and use raw materials more efficiently – the production yield has increased from 90 percent. up to 95 percent”, explains D. Lackus.

According to him, the new automatic line significantly speeds up the production palletization – bags of firewood produced according to the selected schemes are placed on the pallets every 2-3 seconds, which reduces the need for human physical work.

The manager of “VLI Timber” says that operational costs are also saved: the robot allows more production to be placed on the pallet, thus reducing transportation costs and the use of palletizing film.

It is estimated that with the help of the technologies implemented during the project, the company’s work productivity in the first year after the project (2025) compared to 2022. will grow by more than 40 percent. All this, together with the company’s accumulated operational experience, qualified personnel, and modern production processes, will allow to comprehensively ensure the needs of customers and gain a long-term competitive advantage.
