On Wednesday evening, the Ethics and Procedures Commission of the Seimas received another complaint about the so-called parliamentary investigation commission of the speaker Tomas Gailius. This time, Jarek Niewierowiczius, the chief adviser of the president Gitanas Nausėda, turned to the ethics watchdogs.

“We received one complaint from the Presidency. It was signed by the adviser to the president, J. Niewierowiczius,” Aušrinė Norkienė, chairwoman of the Ethics and Procedures Commission, told Elta on Thursday.

“Regarding the activity of the commission itself,” she added, when asked what doubts were raised in the presidential adviser’s appeal.

Mr. Niewierowicz was one of the representatives of the presidential team who testified before the parliamentary commission of inquiry.

An appeal was also received from Seimas member Agnė Širinskienė, informed A. Norkienė. According to the politician, the member of the Mixed Group is asking for an assessment of possible violations of the Statute of the Seimas, when the parliament did not appoint the rapporteur of the main committee to consider the conclusions of the commission’s investigation after the submission.

ELTA has already announced that the General Prosecutor’s Office has also approached the Ethics and Procedures Commission. On this basis, ethics watchdogs have already started an investigation.

According to A. Norkienė, the new complaints will be considered at the commission meeting scheduled for Tuesday. The parliamentarian did not rule out that the appeals of J. Niewierowicz and A. Širinskienė could be combined with the commission’s already ongoing investigation.

On Thursday, the Seimas, after the discussion, approved the conclusions of the temporary commission that investigated the history of the speaker of the VSD. 64 members of the Seimas voted for this conclusion, 44 against, 13 abstained.

A week ago, after the parliament approved the conclusions after the presentation, some of the politicians belonging to the opposition applied to the Constitutional Court (KT), asking to find out whether the parliamentary investigation commission acted legally.

D. Gaižauskas asks the authorities to assess whether the VSD commission did not disclose confidential data

“Valstietis” Dainius Gaižauskas appealed to the authorities on Thursday regarding the potentially classified information provided to parliamentarians by the temporary commission of the Seimas that investigated the information of the VSD reporter.

“I appealed to the head of the State Security Department, the head of the Special Investigations Service and the General Prosecutor’s Office, asking them to take urgent steps to control the risks and threats that arise during special operations, which are still classified,” D. Gaižauskas told reporters on Thursday.

According to him, the VSD rapporteur’s commission provided the members of the Seimas with too much information. The member of the Seimas added that the classified information has appeared in the media, but did not elaborate on where exactly.

“Transcripts were submitted along with the data collected by the commission, where officers, undercover officers, names and surnames of officers who carried out certain secret actions are practically listed. It is even mentioned what the investigations were conducted before, perhaps even now, special operations that may be being carried out,” D. Gaižauskas later explained to BNS.

According to “Valstietis”, this classified information was submitted to the commission by the speaker T. Gailius, who did so in violation of the law.

“This means that there are real threats to the services, and the services must now know what they are and take immediate action, because many members of the Seimas already know what the security is doing, what operations they are conducting, what kind of officers they are,” said D. Gaižauskas.

He said that this information was presented to the members of the Seimas last week after the conclusion of the VSD reporter’s commission passed the first voting barrier.

D. Gaižauskas spoke after contacting the institutions only now, because he was clarifying whether the information provided to the parliamentarians was classified.

At that time, the chairman of the temporary investigation commission, Democrat Vytautas Bakas, rejected D. Gaižauskas’ accusations regarding the presentation of criminal intelligence data. He emphasized that the members of the Seimas were presented with the information to which the State Security Department gave its consent.

“All the documents that are available to you, for those of you who have the right to get to know the information, are marked with the secrecy mark “Secrets”, you can safely read and know that the Department of State Security has given its consent,” said V. Bakas in the Seimas on Thursday.
