As Eltas was informed by the officer on duty of the Situation Coordination Sub-section of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department, the report about the fire was received at 4:35 p.m., there are no reports of victims.

“The fire is quite big, our forces have been dispatched,” the officer on duty told Elta, noting that warning messages are currently being sent to residents.

The municipality of Kretinga district on the social network “Facebook” asks people living in “Draugystės” gardens and areas around Klaipėda street, called Lapyn area, to close the windows of their houses, temporarily turn off recovery systems and avoid being in the fresh air due to the possible air pollution caused by the fire.

At the time of Kretinga, Antanas Kalnius reports on his Facebook account about closed traffic on Klaipėda street.

“Car traffic is prohibited on Klaipėda Street due to the fire. Also, drivers are asked not to drive along Šventoji street. Choose other travel routes!”, said the mayor.

The National Public Health Center (NVSC) informs residents that fire smoke can be hazardous to health.

Residents are advised to move to the windward side when they are outside and see dark smoke, smell a specific smell. When driving past the fire scene, it is recommended to close the car windows tightly.

Residents living closer to the fire are advised not to go outside, while staying at home – not to open vents, windows and doors. If the house has mechanical ventilation systems, recuperation or air conditioning, we recommend turning off the systems.

If you feel unwell, it is recommended to seek medical attention immediately.

Environmentalists are working at the scene

The Department of Environmental Protection shared information about the incident.

“This evening, a fire broke out in the company UAB “Imedeksa” in Kretinga. After receiving the report, the environmentalists immediately went to the place of the fire. According to preliminary data, the production facilities are currently on fire and cannot be accessed yet.

The Environmental Protection Agency laboratory went to take ambient air samples and measure solid particles and other pollutants. “A pollutant dispersion forecast for the next few hours is also being prepared, which will show the potential dispersion of pollutants and the impact zone, that is, in which territory there may be an increased concentration of pollutants in the air,” the environmentalists informed.

It is said that the situation is being monitored, the public will be promptly informed upon receipt of the latest air quality research data.

A large team of firefighters continues the extinguishing work.
