“I assess positively, all doubts have been dispelled”, L. Kasčiūnas told journalists on Wednesday before the start of the Government meeting.

However, he did not undertake to comment further on the statements of his predecessor, former minister Arvydas Anušauskas, as a result of which the General Prosecutor’s Office commissioned the STT to assess the situation in the national defense system.

“Let’s leave it to history what happened here. I immediately said that there is a smoke screen here, it has dissipated,” the minister repeated his previously expressed thoughts.

When there were doubts about the transparency of the national defense system, the opposition representatives of the Seimas decided to stop the work of the parliament’s National Security and Defense Committee (NSDK). After the decisions of law enforcement, L. Kasčiūnas urged his colleagues to return to normal activities.

“Now I call on all the NSGK members who have not yet returned to the committee to return, elect a chairman, I will congratulate the chairman and we will work together,” he concluded.

ELTA reminds that last week STT refused to open a pre-trial investigation into possible corruption in the national defense system. In turn, on Wednesday, the General Prosecutor’s Office confirmed this decision of the STT.

Questions about non-transparent processes arose after the outgoing former Minister of National Defense, A. Anušauskas, stated that he had encountered “cases of gross interference in public procurement” during his work at the Ministry. President Gitanas Nausėda assessed such hints of the minister as very serious and soon met with the leadership of the STT and the General Prosecutor’s Office.

For its part, STT reported that it has not started pre-trial investigations related to KAM so far. However, the service indicated that it had received information from the Ministry of the Interior about the MP, representative of the Liberals, Raimundas Lopatas.

After the sensational statements, STT interviewed A. Anušauskas himself, former chairman of the National Security and Defense Committee of the Seimas and current minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas, member of the Seimas R. Lopatas and former Deputy Minister of National Defense Vilias Semeškas, Minister of Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė. .
