In the life of a 100-year-old senior citizen – stunning blows: her name could have been on the pages of history

The family could not feed itself

Man is already history. This is evidenced by the experience of Olė, who is now living in Klaipėda for a long time. The woman was born when there were uprisings in Lithuania, the family was oppressed by poverty. She had to starve since she was a baby, so when she grew up, her parents gave her to serve a rich family who lived in another district.

“He was not even six years old when he was given to his family to serve. I took care of the younger children there. I have been serving the priest since I was six. The family where I watched the babies were really good people,” says Olė, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

She says that the owners were of Polish origin, but this did not hinder communication, and the owner treated her like her own child, so she loved that woman like a mother.

According to Olė’s relatives, she is surprising both in terms of health and attitude – she always had her own opinion, she did not recommend it to anyone and still does not. Maybe because she herself has seen all kinds of things in life and often did not correspond to what was as if necessary.

She married early and became a widow, and soon the child also died

Olė admits that she lived according to her beliefs, so she wishes the same for others.

“I was married for 21 years, a week later the child was born,” the woman laughs and adds that she really wanted children, but she didn’t rush into marriage, but her mother told her to get married, so she got married. However, it was as if he sensed that his spouse would not be together for long. – He joined the army rather quickly, then he shot her. And we lived poorly, there was no grain.”

The woman, who worked hard, soon lost her child as well – her two-year-old daughter also left Annapil, so she was alone again.

The young beautiful widow was not left without attention, although she was in no hurry to look for anything herself. Perhaps also because he had to hide this and that from prying eyes – with another mercenary, he did not abandon the brothers in the forest, from time to time he brought them food, communicated with those who did not like the tsarist oppression. According to Olė, at first she didn’t even know who she was bringing the food to – she asked, and she did. Then, even knowingly, she sometimes went to the “fines” – that’s what the woman called the place where the partisans were hiding.

Men chose nicknames based on trees, so Olė says she knew Đžuola, Birža, but she had not heard what their real names were.

Acquaintance with the Macerni family: its name could have appeared on the pages of history

The woman was also caught when she was carrying a message to the partisans, but escaped punishment. During the interrogation, she received blows, but she says that she did not even know who and from whom she was carrying the letter.

Soon she met the brother of the writer Vytautas Macernis. Feelings arose for both and the couple, who had been friends for four years, made a promise to each other. However, Olė’s name never found its way into the Macerniai family tree.

“His mother chase [tuoktis, – aut. past.] did not allow We were friends for four years. When he joined the army, he offered get married [susirašyti, – aut. past.], but I said no. When he returned from the army, chase his mother is no longer with him,” the woman shares.

According to Olė, people were very careful about who communicates with whom, and it was difficult to trust even the neighbors. Those who guarded each other immediately reported that soldiers were walking through the farms and could send them into exile. Back then, even the mercenaries were told by the hostess to hide.

When the soldiers came to the house, the mercenaries were warned not only to hide, but also to be smeared with mud so that the soldiers would not touch them, because they would destroy the food, rape the women, and take away the animals.

Having worked hard all her life, she never blamed anyone for it

The Soviet system is also well known to Ole. I had to work on a collective farm, but even after retirement, she and her husband did not manage to think about tomorrow. The family settled in Klaipėda in 1966, the husband worked on ships, Olė cleaned the premises, did various small jobs in the market and in the store. The woman says that people loved her, sometimes they gave her a piece of bread or meat, and she always tried to do the entrusted work carefully.

Even after reaching retirement age, she did not get tired. After knitting sweaters in a week, she took them by train to Kaliningrad for sale. Now the part of Russia so close is worrying, but at the time it was a real salvation for the family, because its knitwear was popular.

Olė does not blame anyone for the fact that life was not easy, she says that it was simply the way life was.
