Kaunas district municipality approved the 2024 a program to increase employment so that every resident can find a job that matches the available qualifications and ensure a decent standard of living. The program will make it possible to achieve greater, sustainable and long-term employment of the population.

The program for increasing employment, for which 218 thousand was allocated this year. euros, will be implemented by the Kaunas District Municipality in cooperation with the Employment Service, social partners, representatives of local communities representing the interests of groups of jobseekers.

The problem of long-term unemployment

People with low education face difficulties in the labor market, for whom it is difficult to find a job in the local labor market that matches their competence. It is particularly difficult to integrate persons at risk of poverty and social exclusion into the labor market, because they are economically inactive for a long time, have lost work skills, qualifications or social abilities or do not have them. As a result of long-term unemployment, individuals lose motivation to work, become socially isolated and permanent recipients of social support.

“The program for increasing employment helps to solve the problem of long-term unemployment. This year, 106 people will be able to participate in the program: 36 in the employment tool, and 70 will receive employment promotion and motivation services”, emphasized Margarita Venslovienė, head of the Social Support Department of the Kaunas District Municipality.

According to the presenter, the following will be able to participate in the recruitment tool: those who have returned from places of imprisonment, recipients of monetary social support, pregnant women, guardians, parents raising disabled children, persons addicted to psychotropic substances, victims of human trafficking, political prisoners and exiles, persons with refugee status , over 40 years of age, persons preparing for the labor market. They will be able to do temporary jobs that benefit the local community.

Unemployment in the rear has increased

The indicators of the unemployed youth (16-29 years old) grew the fastest (0.8%), and the indicators of those over 50 years old rose symbolically. and the number of long-term unemployed persons.

Thousands of residents were looking for work

In 2023, over 10,000 people applied to the Employment Service. Among Kaunas district residents looking for work, 9,020 of them are unemployed.

6.5 thousand started working indefinitely. 522 of Kaunas district’s clients started working on a temporary basis and 2.5 thousand – chose the activity according to the business certificate.

Last year, 4.6 thousand were registered in Kaunas district. vacancies, of which 152 vacancies are for fixed-term employment. The largest number of jobs were offered by employers performing wholesale and retail trade and motor vehicle repair, construction, manufacturing, and administrative and service activities. 85 workers were sought in the field of agriculture. The largest number of people looking for unskilled casual jobs is registered: packer, sales manager, salesperson, car driver and administrator.
