The release said the brigade’s reservists conducted a variety of exercises during the week to “accelerate operational readiness in this arena.” The aim of the exercise is operational readiness and preparation for “various combat scenarios in the north”.

The training, which took place in Galilee, in the north of the country, simulated combat situations in Lebanon. Infantrymen and armored personnel carriers learned to operate together with soldiers from logistics and communications units in a difficult geographical area. Other soldiers also trained with the Air Force, rehearsing a “rapid air supply to ground forces operating in enemy territory” scenario.

Fierce fighting in the Israeli-Lebanese border area has been on and off for more than seven months. From October 8 The Iranian-backed Shiite group Hezbollah is shelling northern Israel with rockets, artillery and anti-tank shells. Israel attacks Hezbollah positions with air and artillery. According to a United Nations Security Council resolution, Hezbollah’s positions cannot be so close to the border.

Villages on both sides of the border have already been severely affected by the shelling. Approximately 150 thousand people in both countries had to leave their homes in the border areas.
