“Parents taking their children to Maymont Elementary School are at a loss as to how a young child managed to carry a loaded gun unnoticed for several hours,” CBS 6 News reporter Brendan King said.
One parent told reporters how shocked he was. “As for the teachers, they need our help. As parents, we must do what we must do before, during, and after sending our children to school. It doesn’t stop when you let the kids out the door, it has to be done all the time. We need to step up as parents and we’re doing it, said Gregory Coley, the parent of one of the kindergarteners. Again, why don’t schools check backpacks anymore to make sure we have all the learning materials and stuff? If we had simply checked the backpack, this could have been avoided or the gun would have been discovered at 8am. morning instead of 2 p.m. in the afternoon,” T. Glenn mused.
