A source told AFP the strike on an oil refinery in the Russian republic of Bashkiria was “the work of the SBU” and was carried out at “record distance”.

According to the source, the drone flew a distance of 1,500 km.

Two oil storage facilities in Russia’s Krasnodar region were also hit, the source said.

“The SBU has once again proven that it has powerful technological solutions that help to deliver painful blows to the enemy,” the source said.

Russian emergency services said Thursday that a pumping station at the Salavat oil refinery in Bashkiria, owned by Russian energy giant Gazprom, had been damaged.

“There is no fire or casualties,” the Ministry of Emergency Situations wrote on social networks.

Local officials said smoke billowed over the refinery after the drone strike, but it continued to operate normally.

The attack was carried out as Russia celebrated the anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.

“This is an attempt to spoil our celebration. We are not going to give in to provocations. Happy Victory Day!” said Radijs Khabirov, head of the Republic of Bashkiria.
