The report about two seriously injured men in the city of Murnau was received on Saturday around 17:20. By the time the doctors arrived, one of them was already dead. The second, who was also seriously injured, died a short time later in hospital.

The dead were 23- and 36-year-old Ukrainian citizens who lived in the neighboring district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Following immediate investigation, a 57-year-old suspect, a Russian citizen, was arrested near the scene; the man was arrested at his home.

The criminal police, led by the Munich public prosecutor’s office, are investigating the incident as a double murder. The prosecutor’s office asks the court to choose arrest as a preventive measure; this issue will be discussed on Sunday.

Law enforcement officials are trying to determine the general circumstances of the incident and possible motives. In this regard, they are looking for witnesses who can provide any useful information.

In February, the death of Volodymyr Ermakov, a 17-year-old basketball player from Ukraine, when he was attacked by a group of youths caused a stir in Germany.

Soon after, another victim of the same attack died in the hospital – 18-year-old Ukrainian basketball player Artiomas Kozachenko.
