In the town of Rabka-Zdruj, two women and a six-year-old child died when they were crushed by a tree, the fire department said.

Another woman was killed when a tree fell on her car in the town of Zakopane at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, said Andrzej Krol-Legowski, a spokesman for the Zakopane fire department.

According to a medical spokesperson, a child was killed by a falling tree in the same town.

Losses are inevitable

Local authorities warned of dangerous winds of at least 62 km/h and closed mountain roads in the Tatra National Park, The Guardian reports.

Firefighters responded 140 times Monday morning to remove trees blocking roads and help homeowners whose roofs were damaged, local media reported.

The weather came unexpectedly

The winds were raging after three days of unseasonably warm weather.

March 30 in the southern city of Tarnuvos, a new temperature record for that month was achieved – the temperature rose to 26.4 degrees Celsius, reports the state news service PAP.
