The new format of the FIFA Club World Cup has not received approval from footballers.
FIFA has decided to improve its Club Football Cup tournament from next year. The tournament, which has been held since 2000, has undergone serious changes.
The most important change is the format of the tournament and the number of participants. Instead of the former 7-team tournament, FIFA decided to invite 32 teams from all continents. They would compete together in a playoff format, so the teams would have to play five games before the finals.
However, such plans were not particularly liked by its participants. The Athletic reports that a group representing footballers has appealed to FIFA to cancel the project. They justify this by the fact that from next year the already busy football calendar will expand by counting additional matches in the Champions League.
It is said that without receiving a positive response from FIFA, the players are ready to sue the organization.
