The ambassador of asexuality with impressive body lines, who is coming to Lithuania, has seen spicy images: who is she and what will she do in our country?

In the United Kingdom, Y. Benoit took up the asexual rights initiative – the Stonewall x Yasmin Benoit Ace Project.

Y. Benoit, who is coming to Lithuania, will give a presentation on asexuality, asexuality communities and their activities at the progress and innovation conference “LOGIN 2024”, which will be held on May 30-31.

So what is asexuality and is it related to sexuality?

According to The Conversation, although the world is seeing a growing social movement for the recognition of asexuality, it is still incomprehensible to many.

In general, asexuality refers to low or no sexual desire. However, this does not mean that all people who identify themselves as asexual asexualor “ace“), never experience sexual desire or never have sex.

Also, people who identify as asexual may feel strong romantic attraction to someone, but not sexual (wanting to have sex with a particular person) attraction. Meanwhile, other asexuals may enjoy sex but feel no attraction to the person they are having sex with.

Asexuality is not associated with any single sexual or gender identity, ie asexual people can be of any gender and sexual orientation.

Based on the data of the 2004 British population survey, it was determined that 1 percent of those interviewed admitted that “no one has ever sexually attracted them”. However, this study may also be inaccurate, as many asexual people would disagree with the statement that they have “never” felt any sexual attraction.

According to The Conversation, asexuality as an identity stands alongside heterosexuality, homosexuality or bisexuality as a self-description determined by a person’s form of attraction.

However, the meaning of defining asexuality as an “identity” can often be misunderstood, as many people at some point in their lives experience a reduced or complete absence of sexual desire.

According to phys.org, many asexual people do not conform to traditional societal expectations regarding sex, relationships, and marriage. Asexuality is often not accepted or understood by families and communities.

This is based on the fact that sexual relations are almost the most important expectation that members of society traditionally place on themselves and others in pursuit of a “good” life. Sex and lust (or desirability), not to mention marriage and childbearing, are exalted and valued in society. Meanwhile, asexual or non-sexual people are ostracized by society, sending them the message that they are ‘failed’ and ‘good for nothing’.

However, in some cases, lack of sexual desire can be explained by medical and/or psychological definitions, where low libido is a problem that a person wishes to solve. Hypoactive libido disorder is listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

Meanwhile, developing an understanding of asexuality as a legitimate sexual identity is a resistance to the view that lack of sexual desire is a deficiency.

The asexuality movement is in no way anti-sex. It is a position that aims to expand the perception of sexual diversity.
